Topics to be covered include:

N-Prep Committees

NSA Meeting this Friday

November 16th, 2011

Hey SFSU Nursing students! It’s been vocalized that many of you would be more willing to attend our meetings if you knew what we would be discussing in advance. So here’s the information about this next meeting:

It’ll be held in Burk Hall room 408 from 11am-1pm and the lunch provided will be “Pop’s Sandwich” a local sandwich. The two sandwiches that will be provided are:
Freebird
: which consists of turkey, bacon, swiss, cranberry, lettuce, and mayonnaise.
Twin Peaks
: which is ham, turkey, bacon, swiss, avocado, mayonnaise, mustard, special dressing, onions, pepperocini, lettuce, and tomatoes.

During the meeting we will be discussing:

Spring Level 1 “Meet and Greet” – This is about the organization of the “Meet and Greet” for the incoming level 1 students. This will be a large scale orientation day rather than a “1 hour meet up” like we’ve had previously and we need student input and volunteers to help us make this event happen! Such as Clinical tips, GWAR info, segment 3, iLearn, touring the SFSU campus, Kaplan, what to call the event, etc. This will be the bulk of our meeting this Friday.

NSA Presence at the Pinning Ceremony - We will be looking for volunteers to help with this event. For anyone who is handling their Pinning Ceremony fundraising I’d suggest going to this! I did last semester and it offers tons of helpful advice and tips! These level 5′s did just plan theirs after all.

BRN Sunset Letter for Approval – For those of you who do not know, the Board of Registered Nurses has not been renewed. The BRN Sunset Letter for Approval has nothing to do with SFSU’s accreditation.

Sweaters – Alek will discuss with us the new fundraising opportunities we will have and what new items we will be selling! Come stop by and sneak a peak at our nursing gear!

NSA Funding – Albert has done some amazing research about how the NSA can earn some more money.

Discussion of Election Times – The NSA is going to finally debate and vocalize our opinions and lay it all out on the line about our thoughts and what we want to do about next year’s Nursing Student Association elections. We be holding off placing a vote until the General Meeting on Dec. 2nd but please stop by and give your input about when elections should be held!

Thanks! See you all on Friday!

Board of Registered Nurses Visit

October 31st, 2011

The Board of Registered Nurses (BRN) is making a visit to the SFSU’s School of Nursing this year. This is extremely important because the BRN determines whether or not the school is accredited for meeting nursing school standards and if future students will be able to sit in for the NCLEX exam. It may seem disconnected from you, but SFSU’s reputation is an aspect that will carry on with you throughout your careers. The faculty are searching for students from Level II – V and GMSN in order to speak with a representative from the BRN. There will be no faculty present, only the reviewer. There is only one BRN reviewer here for 3 days, and it is essential she receives a holistic view of the School of Nursing at SFSU. Since our school’s accreditation is at stake, this is NOT a forum for grievances, but a time for constructive critique, leadership, and diplomacy. We hope you will consider participating in your educational and career future.

The BRN scheduled meeting times are:

Level II: Monday, November 7, 2 – 3 pm in BH 346C
Level III: Monday, November 7, 1 - 2 pm in BH 346C
Level IV: Monday, November 7, 3 – 4 pm in BH 346C
Level V: Wednesday, November 9, 11 am – 12 pm in BH 376
GMSN: Tuesday, November 8, 5 – 6 pm in BH 348

Rose Parade – Nurses will have their own float!

October 26th, 2011
For the first time in 124 years, the President of the Tournament of Roses (aka the Rose Parade in Pasadena) is a registered nurse, Sally Bixby. Sally Bixby is also the second woman to be President. As a result, nurses will be represented by having a float for the very first time. This is a historic moment because nurses are getting the recognition for the wonderful work they do in caring for their patients around the world. On January 1, 2013, at the world-famous Rose Parade, a parade float designed and decorated with loving care and appreciation for every nurse will travel down the parade route in Pasadena, California. If you are able, please donate to the recognition we deserve! http://flowers4thefloat.org/ Thanks!
