As you’re all probably aware, we have just 17 days left in the semester! Meaning there is just enough time to squeeze in one last NSA meeting As always everyone is welcome to attend. • IDENTIFICATION: Valid identification such as a driver’s license, DMV identification card, passport, social security number, etc.

New NSA Positions
We will be discussing the possible roles of “Breakthrough to Nursing Director”, “Prenursing Rep” and decided what they would be responsible for and how we can incorporate them into our NSA.

Officer Role Changes Proposed Bylaws Amendment for Level Reps responsibilities will be discussed at this meeting. Changes would include Level Reps alternating taking charge of providing food for NSA meetings and organizing Faculty meeting attendance.

Come to the 2012 SIGMA Wellness & Health Expo that will be held on Thursday, March 15th from 9:30am-4pm at the Marriott in Oakland. FREE admissions.

Just a friendly reminder that we will be having an NSA meeting this Friday, 3/2 from 12pm-1pm in BH 236. Come by for some free food!

At the meeting we will be discussing:

1. NSA Elections information -  If you think you want to be an officer in the NSA come and find out what you need to do/need to know as well as hear the officers describe their positions. Elections will be April 27th.
2. NSNA discount on NSA items – We are discussing and will be voting on price discounts for NSA items (shirts, sweaters, water canteens, etc) to students who provide their NSNA membership card when buying their items.
3. Faculty Meetings – Come learn how to sign up and have a voice in the faculty’s meetings.
4. Announcement of a Blood Drive and other volunteer opportunities
5. Changes to the Level Rep positions – Certain officer positions are expanding, come have a voice and help us make changes to the structure of the NSA.

1. Various NSA projects and committees from the last meeting
2. GMSN changes Discussion – 10 minutes have been allowed for the GMSN class to come together and discuss the changes to their program. I would suggest they establish a committee and an email list at this meeting as the purpose of this time is mostly to outline concerns, goals and begin a dialogue between the GMSNs of different levels. 
3. New NSA T-shirts will be shown!
4. Elections date announced and the Officers explaining what their job does.
5. Upcoming Off Campus Nursing Student gatherings – Come join the fun.
6. Prenursing student outreach – Come be a part of the committee that will speak to the prenursing students and get involved.

Hey Everyone,

There are two medical clinics coming up in the area this Spring (dates/details below). RAM CA will provide free vision, dental, and medical services at its events. I contacted RAM to find out what types of volunteer services nursing students are able to provide at these events.

1st year nursing students:

• Unable to provide any direct care.
• Help direct patients to different locations
• Other general volunteer duties (this is still a great opportunity!)

2nd year nursing students:

• Health screenings blood pressures, vision screening etc.
• Dental assisting

This would be a great opportunity for all nursing students to attend and volunteer at an event like this, even if you are unable to provide any medical services. What better way to spend your spring break! Okay, perhaps a trip to Hawaii drinking Mai Tai’s on the beach would be better, but lets face it, it’s unlikely that’s where you will be

Below are the dates and locations for the two clinics in our area. Unfortunately, we are unable to sign up as a group, so each individual must sign up through the website. The clinic is offered for 4 days and you do not have to volunteer for all 4 days. When you register to volunteer enter in the dates that you would like to volunteer. The shifts begin around 5-5:30am and you should expect to be there till about 5:30-6pm. The times are not pre-determined because it depends on the number of patients they see. Generally you are done around 5:30, but please be flexible! If you would really love to volunteer, but absolutely cannot commit to that time frame, please enter the time along with the date(s) you are available in the comments section when you register (note: when you register the comments box says “license comments” use this space to enter the info.

I hope many of you will take advantage of this opportunity! Register soon, as space does fill up for volunteers.

NSA will be holding a Bone Marrow donation drive at the San Francisco State University!

I really want to make this a huge success, since it’s for such a great cause.
I have attached a document that has a lot of information about what Be The Match, what it means to register and why this is such an important cause.

Some additional info: what we are asking people to do is sign up for the Bone Marrow donation registry. What this entails is that they get swabbed (the inside of their mouth) and are placed on a registry to see if they are a match for anyone who needs a bone marrow transplant. Getting registered and swabbed is all completely painless If they are found to be a match for someone at some point, then they would actually be a candidate for the actual bone marrow donation. By signing up to be on the registry they are not required to donate if they are found to be a match, however, they do want people to be serious about it because it costs about $100 to register each person.

Here are some of the pertinent details:

The drive is set for Wednesday, February 15th from 10:30-1:30 in Rosa Parks D

• For the day of the drive we need about 7 volunteers to help in the room with set-up/break-down, greeting and helping recruit people to register. There is a 1 hour training video for volunteers to watch (I know it sounds daunting, but it’s actually quite interesting and informative about the donation process). If anyone is interested and available to volunteer, please email me. 

• In addition to holding the drive we also need to do some fundraising to help off-set the costs of registering a person. As I mentioned earlier, it costs about $100 to register each person. For the fundraising portion, I have set up a webpage where people can donate money. There is a link that people can send to friends and family for donations and you can also add a link to your facebook page, if you choose. I will send a separate email to forward out with the fundraising info.
